Solstice Campus
A research campus whose laboratory and workplace buildings share a kit of parts: unitised glazed walls, metal rainscreen, and solar control.
The commission
Solstice Campus is a 28-acre research precinct. Rather than a one-off envelope per building, Verticea developed a kit of parts — unitised glazed walls for workplace, a tighter laboratory module with higher airtightness, and a metal rainscreen for service buildings — so the campus reads as one family while each typology performs.
We ran energy models against Title 24 and the client’s internal carbon brief, specified bird-friendly glass on woodland edges, and designed solar-control screens that are structural, maintainable, and not an afterthought. Construction support spans multiple packages and contractors; consistency of gasket, coating, and setting-out is the quiet work that makes a campus look inevitable.
The laboratory buildings required vibration isolation at façade interfaces and a higher bar for airtightness. We coordinated those details with the lab planner and structural engineer before shop drawings began.
Key outcomes
- Campus-wide envelope kit of parts
- Laboratory airtightness and vibration interfaces
- Bird-friendly glass on woodland elevations
